My Spiritual Journey

Just recently I was pouring out my woes a little on FB and happened to get a response from this guy Brad West from Las Vegas. Although we just and have had minimal conversation I have just started to see myself in a different light. He has started to teach me how to look at me differently.  I didn’t realize there were simple everyday things that I could incorporate into my life that could make big changes in the way I saw and valued things the small things I always took for granted.

There are a few things I would love to share. I realize now that if I’m not valuable to myself I must not be valuable to others. I realize that I have to totally let go of the past and live in the now. The past only hinders my progression in life I will not let anything in my past run or own my life anymore. I can map out my future by establishing goals but only see the goals as where I’m going. The path to accomplish my goals will inevitably change, but I feel the challenges are presented to strengthen my growth.

I am now able to focus on only the now and concern myself with what is happening in the moment. Because that is the only reality we have. You can’t put anything off until tomorrow because tomorrow will never come, tomorrow is today then. This puts into perspective that the real important things in life are only happening now.

Although this is a short outline of this totally enlightening spiritual experience there is one important factor that anyone that wants to get closer to them. It is actually the biggest and main thing that needs change and that is to change the way you think. The subconscious mind is an incredibly strong and influential element and most people don’t realize it. If you change the way you think you change everything. Anyone can be what they want through thought. You are what you think in the words of the great Napoleon Hill “as a man thinkith so he is”. This ultimately means that everything begins in thought.

I am young in this journey since is just started and is happening now but I am beginning to see things in a perspective that I haven’t ever seen before. Just the fact that I have crossed paths with Brad and he normally just drops what he is doing to mentor me with no expectations on his part makes me realize that giving to others has great value. Giving to others without expectations of receiving anything in return from them is huge. Just knowing that by selflessly giving there will be a return in my life ten times over or more. I am so into this new perspective on my life’s journey.

Comparing my spiritual journey to what W.E.B. Du Bois spoke about in Of Our Spiritual Strivings, I have realized I cannot change the world around me, just myself and be myself. I take a quote from his speech; He began, to have a dim feeling that, to attain his place in the world, he must be himself, and not another. The world is a hard, brutal place to live in, there are things I cannot change, but I can be more aware of what makes me happy, and live to strive for that freedom too, the long-sought, we still seek-the freedom to love and aspire. He was correct in this, that we have freedom, we have choices, and we should live our life to do as God created us to, to love. While we make this journey through life loving, we have the ability to teach others the greater values and help them also.
